My daughter is loving the Full-Day Preschool Program

We first came to Lansing looking for a morning nursery when my son was 2 and I was on mat leave with our daughter. I was attracted by the bright, child-friendly building, the small size of the school and the flexible programming. I was reassured by the fact that I could be part of the school through duty days and see my children in their first “school” experience.
Now it’s our family’s third year with the school and my daughter is 3.5 and loving the Full-Day Preschool program. I returned to work part-time, re-arranged my work and her school schedule to continue to have her here.

Common Preschool Program FAQs

1. Nutrition
Daily snacks and hot lunch, including how much your child ate, are shared with parents daily through our HiMama app.
The weekly meal schedule is also posted on the board in the Parents Room, for those who want to know the week's menu in advance. Lansing is able to accommodate most allergy and food restrictions that your child may have.

2. Toilet training
Children need to be toilet-trained prior to joining the program as Lansing does not have change table facilities in place.
We understand however that accidents happen and teachers will take children to the washroom several times during the day. If it becomes clear that your child is not toilet-trained at all, we will request that they are withdrawn from the program until this milestone is achieved.

3. Nap or Quiet Time
Each child in the Full-Day Preschool program is given
a labelled individual cot and bottom sheet should they wish to take a nap. Many children still need a soothing item to sleep, so parents can provide either a soft comfort object or small blanket.
Mats and sheets are cleaned weekly.

Children who are not sleeping and become restless, can engage in quiet time activities, such as reading or doing a puzzle..
Read more about Lansing's Sleep Monitoring Policy here.

4. Joining age
Children must be 3 years old by December 31 to join this program.

5. Junior Kindergarten Curriculum
Lansing's Preschool Program is structured on a JK curriculum and offers a more supportive alternative to traditional Junior Kindergarten. Many young children are overwhelmed with the transition to a traditional school system, which often has large class sizes and higher child-teacher ratios. Often children are also varied in their development, which is more easily accommodated by the small and nurturing class sizes of the Lansing's Preschool Program.
